Mrs. Shanley’s Irish Spring
A one-woman monologue. Meg Shanley, a recent widow, decides to take the trip to Ireland she had planned with her recently deceased husband. Accompanying her is her shy cousin Marty. Landing in Dublin on St. Patrick's Day,she is suddenly and persistently pursued by a gentleman horse breeder from County Meath. He follows her all over the country, wines and dines her, and asks her to marry him the night before she leaves. Is he too good to be true? The family starts taking sides on his character. Is this the opportunity of a lifetime or something more sinister? It's a bit of a mystery, a bit of a comedy, but above all, a fascinating story with a surprise ending.

Melting in Madras by HR Britton
In 1995, a wide-eyed, 23-year-old, just-out-of-college H.R. Britton traveled to India to explore yoga and music for a year. After three months, his quest for spiritual clarity took a detour when he became seriously ill. Drawing on storytelling, character work, and live music, Melting in Madras vividly paints portraits of the people he met, and tells the tale of his pilgrimage with all its confusion and beauty. The Hindu called Britton’s previous work “a moving and humorous account of an India less traveled.” BackStage has called him “an engaging storyteller ... one honest, likable guy telling his story with unaffected simplicity.”

Bari Lee
Bari Lee is known as Boston’s “middle-aged comedienne. Her material covers a wide range of topics: travel experiences, the overweight woman’s guide to political correctness (“I want to be called a Dairy Queen-American”), getting older, and a brief history of baked potatoes.
Bari speaks frankly about being middle-aged, overweight and divorced, without insulting herself or getting political. Behind the jokes is an empowering sub-text: no matter how you look or what your problems are, you can still have fun and enjoy life’s pleasures.

GIRL TALK THEATER Rewind Fastforward Our mission is to empower poor, homeless and marginilized women through the art of theatre. We teach theatre classes in area shelters and safe havens. We work with the students in these classes to create original theatre pieces based on their true stories. At NEFF we will be performing two pieces created by the group. The first piece is a slice of life in Boston Common featuring both characters that are homeless and those that are not, and how they react to each other. The second piece is a satirical look at the complicated process of getting Section 8 housing. Both pieces are based on true experiences of our performers. We look forward to introducing the Boston Theatre community to these amazing, unique and powerful performers"

Ghostlight Theater presents Pillowman by Martin McDonagh
THE PILLOWMAN, written by Irish playwright Martin McDonagh, was the winner of the Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Play in 2004. Katurian, a writer in an unnamed totalitarian state, is interrogated by two bulldogish detectives, Tupolski and Ariel regarding missing children cases which resemble his own Grimm’s-styled stories. The evening progresses from interrogation room to prison cell and back, leading to discoveries about the writer's own dark childhood, the brother whom he cares for, and the stories at the heart of it all. With many twists and turns, the line between reality and fairy tale is blurred until it's hard to know who is telling the truth in this thoughtful thriller. Warning: contains graphic and unsettling topics and dialogue.
